A hurricane is a storm which can cause terrible destruction and death. Hurricanes bring tremendously strong winds, so strong they can knock down buildings. The wind travels as fast as a speeding automobile and often it is accompanied by heavy rain. Weather scientists keep track of hurricanes. They find hurricanes by using cameras in satellites, and they try to discover where the hurricanes are heading. When people are informed that a hurricane is heading their way, they move to a safer place. This new science has saved many lives.

　　飓风是一种能造成严重伤亡的暴风雨。飓风带来可怕的强风，风的强度可以刮倒建筑物。风速就像疾驰的汽车一样快，还经常伴随着暴雨。气象专家跟踪着飓风，他们通过卫星上的照相机找到飓风并尝试找出飓风的路线。当人们得到通知飓风会吹向他们时，他们就搬到安全的地方。新的科技挽救了很多生命。
