　　The city mouse and the country mouse

　　城里老鼠和乡下老鼠

　　A city mouse and a country mouse were distant relatives. The country mouse wrote a letter tothe city mouse. "How are you, my city cousin? Come visit us sometime." The city mouse in hisbest suit visited the country mouse.

　　从前，城里老鼠和乡下老鼠是远房亲戚。有一天，乡下老鼠给城里老鼠写信：“最近如何?老兄，有时间的话来我家做客吧。”于是，城里老鼠穿上自己最得体的衣服去了。

　　"Welcome. Please help yourself before you leave." The country mouse prepared rice, beans anddried fruit. The city mouse laughed at the food and said,

　　“欢迎，把这儿就当作自己的家吧。”乡下老鼠准备了米饭，豆子和干果盛情招待。而城里老鼠却嫌弃这些食物说道：

　　"Gosh! You invited me over to give me this kind of food? You should come visit me. I will treatyou to delicious food." The city mouse bragged about the city where he was living to thecountry mouse.

　　“我的天哪，你居然用这么寒酸的食物招待我?你该去我那做客，让你看看什么是美味的食物。”城里老鼠大肆炫耀着自己居住的城市是如何如何的好。

　　"Thank you for inviting me. I will come over for sure." Thinking about his trip to the city, thecountry mouse was too excited to sleep. 'At last, I'm going to the city tomorrow.'

　　“谢谢你的邀请，我一定会登门拜访的。”一想到要到城里去，乡下老鼠兴奋地一晚上没睡着觉。“我明天就要到城里去了。”

　　Delighted, the country mouse came to the city mouse's house. "Knock, knock." "Anybodyhome?" "Oh, welcome!" greeted the city mouse cheerfully. The city mouse showed the countrymouse all over his house. The country mouse was surprised how grand the house was. "Thehouse is really big. Magnificent! I am so proud that you are my relative." "Don't mention it." The city mouse was pleased.

　　乡下老鼠很开心地来到城里老鼠的家。“叮当”“有人在家吗?”“哦，你来了，欢迎欢迎。”城里老鼠很热情，带着乡下老鼠四处参观。看到这么漂亮的房子，乡下老鼠惊讶极了。“房子真大啊，太宏伟了。能成为你的亲戚，我真骄傲。”“这没什么的”城里老鼠很是开心。

　　The city mouse led the country mouse to the kitchen. When they climbed up the table, therewere a large piece of bread, fruit and cheese on it. "Well, help yourself. I have food like thiseveryday." "Wow! They look delicious. I envy you."

　　城里老鼠带乡下老鼠参观厨房。他们爬上了桌子，桌子上有面包，水果和奶酪。“你自便，这样的食物我每天都吃。”“哇哦，看起来真好吃，我太羡慕你了!”

　　The country mouse began eating the tasty cheese. It was right then that the kitchen dooropened with a bang and a man came in. The city mouse dragged the country mouse and ranaway helter-skelter.

　　可是正当乡下老鼠准备吃奶酪的时候，右边厨房的门开了，一个男的走了进来。于是，城里老鼠拉着乡下老鼠狼狈地逃走了。

　　Breathing heavily after hiding in the mouse-hole, the city mouse said, "Hugh! That was close." The country mouse was unable to understand the city mouse's behavior. However, on thenext day and the following day, the same thing happened.

　　躲到老鼠洞里后，城里老鼠喘着粗气说：“哎呦!差一点就...。”乡下老鼠不明白城里老鼠的话是什么意思。但是接下来的几天，这样的情况一直在发生。

　　After a few days, the country mouse said to the city mouse, "I should go back to my house inthe country. Even if I eat nothing but beans, I can live peacefully. Why don't you come with meto the country? It would be better than living here nervously like this."

　　就这样过了几天，乡下老鼠说：“我得回乡下看看去了，虽然我只有豆子充饥，但起码生活很安稳。你为什么不跟我一起去乡下呢?再也不用这样提心吊胆的生活。”

　　The city mouse was so embarrassed that he could not do anything. The country mouse cameback home and never went back to the city.

　　城里老鼠什么也没有招待亲戚感到很羞愧，而乡下老鼠回家后再也没有来过城市了
