spare somebody something

　　这里的spare表示save somebody from having to go through an unpleasant experience. 比如：

　　Please spare me the details. = Please don’t tell me the details.

　　You could have spared yourself an unnecessary trip by phoning in advance.

　　Welcome to the club.

　　有的时候我们还会听到Join the club. 这两句话的用法一样，就是当别人跟你一样有了不幸遭遇的时候，对对方说的。比如：

　　So you didn’t get a job either? Join the club!

　　be barking up the wrong tree

　　To have the wrong idea about how to get or achieve something. 可以翻译成“方法不对，找错人了，方向错了。”例如：

　　You’re barking up the wrong tree if you’re expecting us to lend you any money.

　　be sweet on somebody

　　To like somebody very much in a romantic way.

　　没想到sweet居然还可以这么用!英语也算是博大精深了……
