场景会话,了解套路
在某些特定的英文场合,对于即将展开的对话你要有一个心理准备。我们可以在去某些场合之前先做做预习:Google一下自己即将“遭遇”的话题,或者买本实境英语教材做参考,或者是询问native speakers或有海外生活经历的朋友,后者是最好的方式。下面举几个我在美国遇到的例子。
有一天我跟先生在美国的Denny’s餐厅吃午餐。当时服务员说的话大致如下。
例1
Step 1. 确定人数:How many are in your party?
Step 2. 确认预定:Do you have a reservation?
Step 3. 引领入位:Right this way.
Step 4. 点饮品:Can I get you something to drink,ma’am? And for you, sir?
Step 5. 点餐:Are you ready to order?
Step 6. 配菜:That comes with either fries or salad. Which would you prefer?
Step 7. 询问做法:How would you like your eggs?
在餐厅,服务员还有可能说的无非就是“Can I get you anything else?” “How was everything?” 等非功能性套话。
例2
有一次我在AT&T retailer (美国电话公司零售商)买了一张60美元包月套餐的电话卡。我便打电话给AT&T的客服电话,得到了以下语音提示(voice prompt)。
Step 1. 欢迎词:Welcome to AT&T.
Step 2. 客户套餐信息:You are on the $60 monthly unlimited calls plan with data whichrenews(续期) on April 3rd. You have 1.9 GB data left in your plan. Also, your account has zerobalance(余额).
Step 3. 办理何种业务:What would you like to do? You can say “add money(充值),” “features(特色功能),” “rate plan(资费计划)” or “account balance(账户余额).”
当系统没有得到你的指令时,你会听到以下内容。
Step 4. 具体选项:Here are your choices: Add money to your account, say “add money” or press 1. To check your feature packages or buy features, say “features” or press 2. For changes to your rate plan, say “rate plan” or press 3. To get your account balance, say “account balance” or press 4.
小结 在类似的日常生活场景之下,谈话内容的随机性不大。大家可以先在脑子里把一些关键表达过一遍,查一查别人会怎么说,想一想自己该怎么应对。到了“现场”,就是做个复习加操练,实在是没什么可怕的。
