马云的光荣头衔又要增加一项了，这一回是全球妇女代表。是的，你没有听错，这项殊荣还是联合国给予的。昨天，阿里方面向钱江晚报独家透露，9月26日在纽约联合国总部将举行世界妇女峰会，其中的“女性赋权全球企业家领袖会议”，联合国选了马云做联合主席，马云还要向联合国秘书长汇报全球妇女工作。

　　Jack Ma, billionaire and chairperson of China's Alibaba Group,will be a co-chairperson at the upcoming Global Women's Summit at the UN headquarters in NewYork on September 27, organizers announced.

　　Ma is expected to deliver a speech at the meeting of "women's empowerment and global businessleaders" and will present a progress report on world women to the UN Secretary-General.

　　Melinda Gates, wife of Microsoft founder Bill Gates, will also attend the summit as Ma's fellowpanelist.

　　As founder of the world's largest e-commerce company by business volume, Ma has said heattributes much of his achievement to women, as their online shopping has contributed much tohis profits. He once claimed that women are the "secret sauce" behind his company's success.

　　In turn, Ma has been making efforts to promote women's development and femaleentrepreneurship. He hosted the Global Conference on Women and Entrepreneurship on May 20in Hangzhou in east China's Zhejiang Province, which attracted more than 800 female attendeesfrom home and abroad.

　　As the only male speaker at the conference in May, he said, "In the future, China's economy willbe mainly driven by the service industry. Women, who by nature are more considerate than theirmale counterparts, will definitely play a larger part."

　　As Ma is a man with "numerous women behind him"—as netizens have jokingly commented—hewill be one of the main people representing global women at the summit, to make their voicesheard and to promote their development.

　　Previously, in 1995, officials and representatives from 189 countries attended the 4th WorldConference on Women in the Chinese capital and formulated the Beijing Declaration and theBeijing Platform for Action, vowing to win women and girls equal rights, freedom andopportunities in different sectors of social life and to protect them from poverty, oppression andviolence.

　　After 20 years of efforts made around the world, China and the international organization UNWomen will co-host the event in New York, in the hope of encouraging more commitments andfunds to promote women's status, gender equality, as well as peace and development.

　　It was revealed that heads of states and governments will be invited to the summit and ChinesePresident Xi Jinping will attend and make a speech.
