84, Charing Cross Road is a 1970 book by Helene Hanff, later made into a stage play, television play, and film, about the twenty-year correspondence between the author and Frank Doel, chief buyer of Marks & Co antiquarian booksellers, located at the eponymous address in London, England.
IMDB上无数观众都表示,这是“A truly good movie, nothing to change!”
@Don Miller
Every member of the cast delivers the goods, the story is moving and truthful, the characters come to life and you're swept up in their lives.
@Pepper Anne
I like the technique used in this film. The interaction between Helene and her British friends occurs only through letters, so rather than have the characters write a letter and then dub what is written, eventually, the characters just face the camera and say what they would have written, with the camera cutting back and forth for each others response at times.
(Waterstones)
Waterstones, formerly Waterstone's, is a British book retailer that operates 275 stores and employs around 3,500 staff in the UK and Europe as of February 2014. Established in 1982 by Tim Waterstone, after whom the company was named, the bookseller expanded rapidly until being sold in 1993 to W H Smith.
(Hatchards)
Hatchards is the oldest bookshop in the United Kingdom. It was founded by John Hatchard in 1797 in Piccadilly in London, from where it still trades today. Mr Hatchard's portrait can be seen on the staircase of the shop today.
(Scarthin Books )
For a start, it's located in Peak District, but that's not the best fact about Scarthins. No, that fact is that they stock the entire range of British Ordnance Survey Maps at 1 to 25,000 and 1 to 50,000.
If that wasn't enough, it has a variety of rooms stocking new and old books, and - brilliantly - an exhibition of 'curiosities' on the first floor. If that's not cool, we don't know what is.
