剑桥雅思13出来后,很多同学都积极刷题,为了能第一时间了解更新的题目动向。为配合大家备考复习,朱博老师将剑13的口语话题进行解析,给大家参考思路。
剑13Test4 Part 1 Money
1. When you go shopping, do you prefer to pay for things in cash or by card?
真的很久很久没有摸过现金也没带过钱包了……
Well, actually, neither of them. I haven’t paid anything in cash or by card ever since the advent of online payment platform. It’s just so convenient, you know. I just need to use my phone to scan the QR code, and the payment is done. It saves me the trouble of taking a wallet with me when I go out.
advent: …的出现,…的到来
QR code: 快速反应码,二维码
2. Do you ever save money to buy special things?
Um… yeah, sometimes, especially when the thing I wanna buy is pretty pricey. I remember once, I had my eye on a pair of high-heels, but after I checked the price tag, I was like, ‘Wow, that’s almost half of my salary.’ So I just had to save up a little for it.
have one’s eye on something: 看上…想买
price tag: 价签
3. Would you ever take a job which had low pay?
That really depends. I mean, right now, I definitely wouldn’t, ‘cause I could barely make ends meet. I have to pay rent, support my family and things like that. However, someday in the future, if money is no object for me, maybe I’ll do some low-paid jobs, or even some voluntary work, just for personal enrichment.
make ends meet: 收支相抵
money is no object: 不差钱
4. Would winning a lot of money make a big difference to your life?
Yeah, definitely. I always imagine what my life would be like if I became a billionaire, which is why I buy lottery tickets all the time hoping to win the jackpot. That way, I wouldn’t have to be tied to my work and I would have more time and money for my hobbies.
win the jackpot: 中头奖
Part 2
Describe an interesting discussion you had as part of your work or studies.
This topic reminds me of the time I had a discussion with my classmates about our English assignment.
It was last semester, in order to improve our spoken English, our English teacher gave us an assignment. She wanted us to work in groups, and give a presentation about a person we admire.
The moment we saw this topic, me and my group members almost immediately decided to talk about a comic actor called XX, who just won an award a few days back. And we all watched the speech he gave at the award ceremony where he shared his life story.
I wanted to introduce him based on his speech, but some of my classmates in my group suggested that we should put in some stories about him that few people know about, like the struggles he had when he first entered show business, or his love life, or the golden opportunity he had that made him a household name, which would definitely make our presentation more intriguing. I think that was a good point, so we started to search for more information on the Internet. And each one of us made several slides, and got the work done perfectly.
household name: 家喻户晓的名字
intriguing: 有趣的吸引人的
slide: 幻灯片
Part 3
Discussing problems with others
1. Why is it good to discuss problems with other people?
‘cause just as the saying goes, everyone you will ever meet knows something that you don’t. Discussing problems can help us see things from different perspectives, allow us to take as many factors into consideration as possible, and get inspired from others, so that we would be able to come up with better solutions.
Everyone you will ever meet knows something that you don’t. 三人行必有我师
2. Do you think that it’s better to talk to friends and not family about problems?
Well, that largely depends on what kind of problems we are talking about. I mean, if we have problems about things happened in our school, then maybe it’s best to discuss them with our friends, ‘cause they can better relate to us, and provide constructive suggestions. However, if our problems are more serious, or if they have something to do with our future, asking parents for advice might be a better idea, ‘cause they are more experienced, sophisticated and reliable, and they can help us to put our problems into perspective.
constructive suggestion: 建设性意见
have something to do with: 与…有关
3. Is it always a good idea to tell lots of people about a problem?
Um… maybe not. Although when you are trying to solve a problem, you might think two heads are better than one, sometimes listening to too much advice will make you confused. I mean, you will get stuck and don’t know what to do.
Communication skills at work
1. Which communication skills are most important when taking part in meetings with colleagues?
I think being a good listener is the most important when we are having a meeting with our coworkers, ‘cause that shows your respect for others. When they feel that you are respectful of them, they will treat you the same way. And that helps to create a harmonious atmosphere where everyone’s opinion can be listened to and valued.
2. What are the possible effects of poor written communication skills at work?
Well, if someone lacks written communication skills at work, especially when he’s new to the job, others might think he is impolite or rude just because he can’t write things in a proper way, and that will give a bad first impression, which definitely is not beneficial to his future career.
3. What do you think will be the future impact of technology on communication in the workplace?
I’m sure future technology will dramatically change the way we communicate when we work. First of all, telecommuting will be widely adopted, which means we can work from home, communicating with each other using something even more advanced than email or telephone. And also, no more business trips, ‘cause video conferencing will be the norm. And paperless office will become a reality when everything is digitalized.
