1)题目:
The city wants to help teachers of its high school students (ages 14-18) improve their teaching. It is considering two choices:
Choose a group of excellent teachers; these teachers will attend a class led by an expert for additional training in how to teach effectively, and they will then come back to their schools and provide that training for the other teachers in the school.Provide additional training in teaching effectively for all high school teachers, using online material that each teacher will study individually. Which one of these plans would you support? Why?

Training is an effective measure for teachers to improve their teaching ability. Some high schools prefer to select several leading teachers to attend an offline training session and these teachers will then impart knowledge they gain to their colleagues in the school. However, I hold the notion that allowing all high school teachers to study online training materials individually is a better option for several reasons.
To begin with, it is universally acknowledged that online training can help comprehensively increase teacher efficacy. Obviously, the main reason is that when all high school teachers have the opportunity to be trained online, new teachers who generally lack teaching experience but eager to improve their teaching effectiveness can stay updated on the latest teaching methods and apply them to the preparation for the classroom immediately. Thus, plenty of teachers could produce greater achievement gains for their students by absorbing teaching knowledge online. However, if only a limited number of teachers are selected to attend a training session, those who are not chosen will think they are not qualified to be regarded as excellent teachers, which will definitely sap their confidence and then lose the motivation to improve their teaching. The story happening to Zoe could perfectly prove the statement mentioned above. She got a teaching position in a high school last year and was given an account to approach tons of teaching materials online. As a novice at teaching, she would have felt frustrated at the lack of training if she had not been provided with those materials. As a result, the effective online learning opportunity laid the groundwork for Zoe’s effective teaching. However, Joe, also a complete novice, didn’t have the chance to improve his teaching ability because only those who had already achieved prominent teaching results could be selected to participate in training programs. Thus, offering all high school teachers a chance to study online, regardless of the experience and students' achievement scores, can contribute to the enhancement of all teachers’ teaching ability.
Besides, the way that teachers study online at their own pace will not have an obvious influence on the teaching process. Apparently, the primary reason is that there is no traveling involved when teachers attend a training session online, and they can arrange the learning flexibly, which means that they can study materials provided after class. Hence, students’ learning activities will not be affected due to the flexibility of their teacher’s online training. By contrast, if attending an offline class led by an expert for additional training, teachers have to leave their teaching position vacant for at least a week, and students may be confronted with the situation that their consecutive learning will be forced to be interrupted. Taking Jessica as an example. As a prominent high school teacher, she was always willing to dedicate her time to taking part in some training programs, and at the same time, she didn’t want to stop the teaching activity. When she was provided with additional training online, she could concentrate on teaching in the daytime and acquire some latest knowledge at night. As a result, not only did she improve her teaching ability, but also ensured that her students’ learning was not influenced due to her training. However, Jack was sent to another city to attend a training session during the last semester, and his students had to wait until their teacher came back because other teachers were occupied with their own work. Therefore, providing training online for high school teachers is an effective way to avoid the interruption to the normal teaching process.
To put everything in a nutshell, compared to choosing several experienced teachers to attend an offline training session, I believe that offering additional online training materials to all high school teachers is a more sensible idea since all the teachers can be motivated to improve their teaching ability and students’ lessons will not be interrupted due to their teacher’s training.
