sample answer
Agonistic behavior means conflicts sometimes arise over resources such as territory or food. To resolve these conflicts, two animals of the same species may try to prove strength to each other, and once one wins and the other surrenders, the winning one would let the loser leave without harming it.
In the lecture, the professor used rattle snakes as an example. Two rattle snakes face each other when they have a conflict, for a hole and potential food inside, then they try to stand up and look tall, afterwards they start pushing and wrestling with each other. Although they fight, they never try to bite during the entire process, thus no one gets injured. Once one rattle snake gains control, the other would be pushed to the ground and held there, then would be released without getting hurt. The winning one then go look for food in the hole.
