5. 高分范文
Today's societies are more complex and faster-paced than ever before. There are many stumbling blocks for young people to encounter and societies have a responsibility to safeguard these citizens. I disagree with the idea that the rules and regulations that societies set are too strict. I will state my case using two main reasons.
In general, today's societies are more developed than in the past, and there is more material wealth, particularly for younger people. This brings advantages but also temptations. Younger people need guidance and protection, and I feel that the laws that societies lay down are useful in doing this. One illustration of this is the law relating to alcohol and driving. In my country, the issue of drinking and driving is taken very seriously, and punishments are harsh for breaking the law. Many young people have access to disposable income and enjoy socializing. What is more, they also have cars, and the combination of the two can lead to disastrous consequences as many young people are unable to judge what is a safe amount to drink. My parents tell me that this was a major social problem until the laws were eventually tightened up. The drink-driving laws have produced a culture where, in general, it is socially unacceptable to drink to excess and then drive. This law serves a valuable purpose in protecting young people from, at times, their own poor decision-making and helps save their lives and those of others.
Another salient point concerns the laws which control the reckless behavior of some young people. Many teenagers are still experimenting with who they are and creating their own identity. This can involve behaving in a way that is designed to impress others but which can endanger themselves and those around them. Let us take the case of street racing. This involves teenagers racing motorbikes at high speed down public roads at night, and it used to be a big problem in my city. On several occasions, serious accidents occurred resulting in death and injury, sometimes of innocent bystanders. Since laws were passed to help curb this activity, the problem has almost disappeared. These people have found other activities to do, which are less harmful and antisocial. In this case, the law was a useful way to help educate young people in the right way to behave as well as protect them.
To recap, I do not agree with the notion that nowadays, societies' laws are too restrictive for younger people. Younger people need guidance and protection when drinking alcohol as they find their feet in the world. Also, laws are effective in discouraging antisocial behaviour which can be dangerous for themselves and other people.
