11月20日，凯特王妃在伦敦的Place2BE Head Teacher Conference上发表了主题为儿童心理健康的演讲。有媒体曾比喻听到凯特王妃的声音就像“撞上日全食”(Hearing Kate Middleton’s voice is like a total eclipse of the sun, a rare gift that comes along only about once a year.)。这么稀缺的皇室腔调学习素材，一定得好好利用是不是!现在，让我们这群“乡巴佬”快快拿出纸笔!

　　王妃殿下的语言，特别亲民，又不失文雅，恰到好处的用词大方得体，赶紧学起来!

　　Thank you Catherine for that kind introduction. I was delighted when I was asked to help open today’s conference. I want to start by saying a big thank you to all of the head teachers here today. I know how much is asked of you.

　　演讲的开头，我们也可以使用相同的套路，首先感谢把我们介绍到台前的人，然后表达一下自己激动的小心情，再然后感谢各位出席的人。不需要华丽的辞藻，一个say a big thank you to就足以表达自己的诚意啦!

　　The fact that you are all committing your valuable time to support Place2Be, and prioritize the mental health of your students is something that all parents should be grateful for.

　　托雅考试的孩子们快看过来!来看王妃是怎么使用从句的!the fact that是高中孩子们最熟悉的同位语从句，后面something that又紧跟一个定语从句。口语考试评分标准里面的语法多样性满分!

　　Prioritize这个词我们经常使用它的名词形式priority，比如可以把这句话改写成The mental health of your students is your first/top priority. 这里动词的用法就是直接跟宾语，表示“优先考虑、处理某事”，例如：

　　The organization was formed to prioritize the needs of older people.

　　I often get asked why I decided to spend time highlighting the mental health of children. I imagine my answer might be very similar to many of yours. I know that I was lucky. My parents and teachers provided me with a wonderful and secure childhood where I always knew I was loved, valued and listened to.

　　这里highlight表示emphasize，以引起他人注意。它是个特形象的动词，例如：

　　The report highlights the major problems facing society today.

　　But of course many children are not so lucky. Since beginning my work in areas like addiction, for example, I have seen time and time again that the roots of poor mental health in adulthood are almost always present in unresolved childhood challenges.

　　后半句，大家可以背下来了，无论是作文还是什么都可以作为论据(童年阶段未解决的心理问题可引发成年后的心理疾病)。Time and time again表示often，等于time after time。roots指的是the main cause of something, such as a problem or difficult situation。

　　I am sure you will agree that all children deserve time, attention and love from the adults in their lives. These basic qualities are so much more valuable than the always changing material and social concerns that can seem so important to young people.

　　家长和老师的陪伴和关爱对孩子的重要性，来!继续背起来!

　　As today’s theme reminds us, many children – even those from stable, happy homes – are finding that their heads are just too full. It is our duty, as parents and as teachers, to give all children the space to build their emotional strength and provide a strong foundation for their future.

　　Of course, not all children have the anchor of a strong family. Many will arrive through your school gates feeling a real lack of love and devotion in their lives. This often leaves them feeling insecure and without confidence and trust in the world around them. That is why your work is so important.

　　Anchor在这里不是常见的“锚”的意思，而是指“能给人安全感的人或物(a person or thing that gives somebody a feeling of safety)”。

　　Parents, teachers and other school staff need the tools to help these young people early in their lives. And the earlier, the better. It is proven that early action prevents problems later in life.

　　最后一句话需要记住哦，王妃还在宣传片里讲过一句类似的：William and I Sincerely believe that early action can prevent problems in childhood from turning into larger ones later in life. 也顺带背下来吧。

　　Imagine if everyone was able to help just one child who needs to be listened to, needs to be respected, and needs to be loved – we could make such a huge difference for an entire generation.

　　Make a difference这个表达我们总能在名人演讲中听到，语义和用法我们也需要很熟悉，这样在自己用的时候才能得心应手。它的意思就是have an effect on something or somebody. 还可以根据需要有各种变体，例如：

　　The rain didn’t make much difference to the game.

　　Your age shouldn’t make any difference to whether you get the job or not.

　　I don’t think it makes a lot of difference what color it is.

　　It makes no difference to me.

　　As head teachers you have the chance to reach tens of thousands of children during your careers, and make an impact on a great scale. Thank you for making the work of Place2Be part of your mission. I hope you know how much your work is valued.

　　Tens of thousands of可以翻译成“成千上万，数以万计”，王妃殿下就是想强调人多啦。

　　Scale表示程度范围，比如：

　　They entertain on a large scale. = They hold expensive parties with a lot of guests.

　　On a global scale, 77% of energy is created from fossil fuels.

　　Here was corruption on a grand scale.

　　Thank you – I am really looking forward to the rest of the afternoon.

　　最后优雅的结尾，端庄的走下台，Voila!
