1. follow in somebody's footsteps = to do the same job, have the same style of life, etc. as somebody else, especially somebody in your family
She works in television, following in her father's footsteps.
2. somebody's heart is in their mouth = somebody feels nervous or frightened about something
My heart was in my mouth as she opened the envelope.
My heart was in my mouth when I reached the top of the roller coaster.
3. see stars = (informal) to see flashes of light in front of your eyes, usually because you have been hit on the head
4. light up = if somebody's eyes or face light up, or something lights them up, they show happiness or excitement
His eyes lit up when she walked into the room.
A smile lit up her face.
5. not (be able to) take your eyes off somebody / something = to find somebody / something so interesting, attractive, etc. that you watch them all the time当我们想表达“目不转睛”盯着某人或某物的时候,就可以用这个表达。还有一个类似的:can’t get somebody / something out of your head就表示can’t stop thinking about somebody or something. 例如:
I can't get that tune out of my head.
Try to put the exams out of your head (= stop thinking about them) for tonight.
6. daylight robbery = (informal) the fact of somebody charging too much money for something
You wouldn't believe some of the prices they charge; it's daylight robbery.
7. piss yourself (laughing) = to laugh very hard
8. dig your own grave = dig a grave for yourself = to do something that will have very harmful results for you 也就是我们说的“自掘坟墓”。
9. blank = to be suddenly unable to remember or think of something
I knew the answer, but I totally blanked during the test.
10. a chicken-and-egg situation, problem, etc. = a situation in which it is difficult to tell which one of two things was the cause of the other
