Do actions, not words, reveal a person or group’s true attitudes and intentions?

When it comes to the intentions of one person, by what means could we figure out the true connotation hidden behind them? Are those words presented in the announcement of a group of essential significance? As far as I am concerned, it is the actions, rather than speeches that always bring people’s attitudes and intentions to view, given the fact that “A picture speaks a thousand words”.

A very representative example of this point is the story of Nicolaus Copernicus, the vanguard of modern astronomy. His idea that the earth rotates around the sun and human beings are just part of the nature was so radical at his time that the Roman Catholic Church accused him of serious crime of heresy. Knowing that he would die if he continued to tell his theory publicly, he told lies that he recanted his theory. And so he protected his life. His idea though he renounced in front of the church, he secretly continued his research. His works like On the Revolutions of Heavenly Spheres were published until the year of his death. In this case, Nicolaus did not tell the truth. However, he followed his heart and he contributed tremendously to the scientific community. Though his words indicated that he betrayed his belief, his action actually proved that he never gave up.

Moreover, common sense tells us that people could disguise their malign intentions by means of fancy words, thus increasing the opportunity to deliberately provide deceiving impression, as is the case with Sanlam Group. Its milk scandal finally broke, after many innocent infants who had been fed on milk powder produced by it were diagnosed with disease. Undoubtedly there seemed to be no one questioning its quality at the beginning due to company’s advertising which is decorated with beautiful and convincing words. As is well known to all that Sanlu merely bare its interests as priority, which is the true and finally intentions for them, and Sanlu has revealed us their original attitudes through the scandal. Therefore, when judging a person or a group’s real intention, we have to take actions into consideration.

As has been outlined above, actions speak louder than words. Undeniably, speeches may to some extent reveal one’s attitudes. However, words may have its own use, but the feather of a person or group’s true attitudes and intentions is fledged in their real actions.
